x - Japan Oda Nobunaga takes the name 'Saburô Nobunaga'.
x - Japan Yamanaka Shikanosuke's father, Mikawa no Kami Mitsuyuki, dies at age 27.
x - Japan Kuroda Kanbei is born at Himeji in Harima.
feb 18 - Martin Luther dies at 62. Luther was a monk whose attacks on the corruption within the Roman Catholic Church began the Protestant Reformation.
mar 00 - Japan Takeda Harunobu [Shingen] attacks Murakami Yoshikiyo's Toishi castle in Shinano, but is defeated at Uenohara.
may 00 - Japan Takeda Harunobu [Shingen] attacks Uchiyama castle in Shinano. The seige lasts 11 days, until the lord of the castle, Ooi Sadakiyo surrenders.
may 00 - Japan Hôjô Ujiyasu wins a decisive victory at Kawagoe Fort over the allied factions of the Uesugi family. Following this battle, the Hôjô are supreme in the Kanto region.
jul 15 - The Schmalkaldic War began. Charles V began the war to put an end to the Schmalkaldic League.
aug 00 - Japan Ota Sukemasa takes Matsuyama Castle in Musashi in a night attack.
dec 14 - Tycho Brahe, Knudstrup Denmark, astronomer (Golden nose), is born.d.1601

x - Japan Oda Nobunaga participates in his first campaign, in Mikawa province.
x - Japan Nagao Kagetora [Uesugi Kenshin] defeats Nagao Harukage and assumes power in Echigo.
x - Japan Saitô Dôsan defeats an army under Oda Nobuhide at Kanoguchi in Owari.
jan 16 - Ivan IV 'the Terrible' or 'the Dread' or 'the Awesome' a.16 assumes his full powers and becomes the first tsar of Russia.u.1584_ List of Tsars
jan 27 - Henry VIII of Englandr.1509-1547 dies at 55.Henry broke with the Roman Catholic Church and divorced his wife, Catherine of Aragon, effectively beginning the Reformation in England.
jan 28 - 9-year-old Edward VI succeeds Henry VIII as king of England.
feb 20 - King Edward VI of England was enthroned following death of Henry VIII.
mar 11 - The Council of Trent reconvened in Bologna, Italy, to avoid the plague. The Council was called to condemn Protestantism through Church doctrine.
apr 24 - The Schmalkaldic War ended with Charles V's disbanding of the Schmalkaldic League.
may 24 - After a year of fighting throughout Germany, Charles V's army defeated the Lutheran army at the Battle of Muehlberg, essentially reclaiming Germany for the Holy Roman Empire.
jun 13 - King Ferdinand of Austria subjects himself on Turkish sultan Suleiman.
jun 21 - Great fire in Moscow.
sep 10 - English demand Edward VI, 10, wed Mary Queen of Scots, 5.

x - Japan Oda Nobuhide makes peace with Saitô Dôsan, and receives a daughter for marriage to Nobunaga.
x - Japan Imagawa Yoshimoto attacks Oda Nobuhide on behalf of Matsudaira Hirotada.
x - Japan Miyoshi Chokei defeats his chief rival in the Miyoshi, his uncle, Masanaga
apr 01 - Sigismund I of Poland a.81 dies. Although a devout Catholic, Sigismund protected Protestants and other non-Catholics from persecution.
jun 16 - As a result of the Augsburg Interim, the Adiaphoristic Controversy arose. The controversy dealt with the Emperor's demands that the Lutherans restore the Catholic mass, sacraments, and authority of the Pope. Article X of the Formula of Concord eventually settled the matter.
jun 30 - The Augsburg Interim was issued. The Interim was a document outlining the temporary truce between the Catholics and the Protestants.
jun 30 - Emperor Charles V orders Catholics to become Lutherans.
aug 15 - Mary queen of Scotland a.6 arrives in France.
sep 00 - Japan Takeda Shingen suffers a defeat at the hands of Murakami Yoshikiyo in the first Japanese battle in which guns are employed (in this case, by the Murakami and of Chinese manufacture)

x - Americas First printing press on the Continent
x - Japan Oda Nobuhide of Owari dies and is eventually succeded by Nobunaga.
x - Japan Matsudaira Hirotada of Mikawa is killed and is eventually succeded by [Tokugawa] Ieyasu. At this time, Ieyasu returns to Okazaki castle from imprisonment by Oda Nobuhiro.
x - Japan Miyoshi Chokei takes Miyake Castle from the Hosokawa, former masters of the Miyoshi.
x - Japan In the Siege of Kajiki, Shimazu Takahisa is the first samurai warlord to use European guns in action.
mar 20 - Thomas Seymour of Sudely, English Lord Admiral, beheaded.
jun 09 - England enforces Act of Supremacy.
