oct - The Assayer, now dedicated to Pope Urban VIII, is published in Rome by the Lincean Academy.
oct - || Conellius Drebbel, hired in 1603 as "court inventor" for James I, builds what may be the first working submarine ?+, which made a submerged journey down the Thames River at a depth of about fifteen feet.

1624

x - Cardinal Richelieu becomes principal minister
x - London Company (a company colonizing America) is dissolved due to trouble in Jamestown.
c - A complaint against Galileo's Assayer is made. The complaint charges that the atomism espoused in the book cannot be squared with the official church doctrine regarding the Eucharist, in which bread and wine are "transubstantiated" into Christ's flesh and blood. After an investigation by the Inquisition, Galileo is cleared.

x - Charles I of England signs the Petition of Right promising not to collect forced loans or levy taxes without parliaments consent. He ignores most of the Petition of Right.
x - |Thirty Years' War +¢| Wallenstein seiges Stralsund. The heroic defense of the citizens for caused him to lift the siege after ten weeks.

1629

mar 29 - |Thirty Years' War +¢| Edict of Restitution allows the Roman Catholic church to recover property seized by Protestants.
may 22 - |Thirty Years' War| Treaty of Lübeck between Ferdinand II and Christian IV ends this period of the war.
