1820

jun 29 - King George III of the United Kingdom dies.
jun 29 - George IV becomes King of The Unitied Kingdom.
nov - James Monroe + is re-elected as U.S. president, virtually unopposed
x - Arithmometer, forerunner of the calculator.
x - Liberia is founded.

1821

may 05 - Napoleon ?+ dies.
jul - San Antonio officials swear allegiance to the new, independent nation of Mexico.
x - Stephen F. Austin brings his first colonists to Texas.
x - |England ?+| Wheatstone reproduces sound.
x - The Plan of Iguala assures Mexican independence.
x - Honduras, Venezuela, Peru, Guatemala, Pamana and Santo Domingo win independence from Spain.
x - Agustín de Iturbide makes himself emperor of Mexico and disbands the elected congress when they refuse to support him.

1822

jun 14 - Charles Babbage + [b.1791- d.1871] announces his invention of the Difference Engine + in a paper "Note on the application of machinery to the computation of astronomical and mathematical tables" read to the Royal Astronomical Society, London, UK.
oct 12 - Brazil becomes independent under the rule of Emperor Pedro I (son of the Portuguese king), who is declared constitutional emperor of the Brazilian Empire.
x - Liberia established.
x - hieroglyphs deciphered by Thomas Young and Jean-François Champollion using the Rosetta Stone.
x - Galileo Galilei's ?* Dialogue taken off of the Index librorum prohibitorum, the Roman Catholic Church's list of banned books.

1823

jan 03 - Stephen F. Austin received a grant from the Mexican government and began colonization in the region of the Brazos River.
mar - |MEXICO| A rebellion lead by Antonio de Santa Anna ? forces dictator Itubide to abdicate. Mexican leaders soon begin work on a national constitution.
sep 27 - |[L-]England_19th&England| Steam locomotive, is built by George Stephenson for commercial use on a public line operates between Stockton and Darlington.
x - Charles Babbage + embarks on a construction of an industrial strength calculator but, due to a series technical and bureaucratic problems the project is terminated in 1834
x - |ENGLAND| Ronalds builds a telegraph in his garden; no one is interested.
dec 02 - In an message to congress James Monroe + delivers what will be known as the Monroe Doctrine +.
x - Cyrus P. Dalkin of Concard, Massachusetts invents carbon copies, although the public doesn't really pick up on the idea till about fifty years later.
x - The Honduras achieve independance from Mexico and join the United Provinces of Central America.
x - Olbers paradox + is described by the German astronomer Wilhelm Olbers
x - Leo XII + becomes pope ?+ [1829] [re.List of Popes]

1824

x - Charles X of France crowned.
x - |MEXICO| Under the new constitutional government, Coahuila y Texas becomes a single state, with the capital in Saltillo.
x - The Constitution of 1824 gave Mexico a republican form of government. It failed, however, to define the rights of the states within the republic, including Texas.
x - James Neilson patented a way of burning coal more efficiently that allows the low-grade coal in Lanarkshire to be used.
nov - Andrew Jackson receives more Popular votes than John Quincy Adams + but does not secure a majority of Electorial Votes in the U.S. presidential elections. It is decided in the US House of Representatives feb 09 1825.
