14 - New YorkLiterature Little Review faces obscenity charges for publishing serialized installments of James Joyce's work-in-progress Ulysses.
17 - U.S. reports there were 9 million autos in the U.S. in 1920.
18 - Aviation French Aviator Etienne Oehmichen makes first helicopter flight.
18 - Pittsburgh, PARadio Harding on KDKA, first President on radio.
18 - British troops occupy Dublin.
22 - USAAviation 6:14 a.m. - The first day/night U.S. transcontinental flight begins, delivering mail from New York to San Francisco.
23 - Russian navy mutinies at Kronstadt on the Baltic Sea to protest food shortages and the ongoing economic crisis. The Bolshevik government crushes the revolt, which nonetheless helps prompt Lenin's later capitalistic-tinged economic policy reforms.
24 - USAAviation 1st transcontinental flight in 24 hrs flying time arrives Florida.
25 - Georgian SSR proclaimed.

00 - First Thomson Submachineguns come off the assembly line.
01 - Nicholas Petrovic Njegos, King of Montenegro r.1910-1918, dies at 79.
01 - Rwanda ceded to England.
03 - Toronto's Dr Banting & Dr Best announce discovery of insulin.
06 - USAFilm Premiere of the World War I film melodrama Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, starring Rudolph Valentino. It cements star Valentino's hold on the film going audience and becomes one of the biggest hits of the decade, earning $3.8 million for Metro Pictures.
13 - Mongolia formerly Outer Mongolia) declares independence from China.
17 - Lenin introduces capitalist-style economics with his New Economic Policy(NEP), in reaction to the collapse of the Russian economy that occured because of ongoing civil war and an Allied blockade of the country designed to end Bolshevism.
17 - Dr Marie Stopes opens Britain's 1st birth control clinic (London).
18 - Steamer "Hong Koh" runs aground off Swatow China killing 1,000.
21 - "Big Jim" Colisimo, US gangster, murdered by Al Capone.
31 - British coal miners goes on strike.

April

00 - First Havana-Key West deep sea cable
11 - Augusta Victoria, Queen of Prussia/wife of Emperor Wilhelm II, dies.
19 - Sports 25th Boston Marathon won by Frank Zuna of NJ in 2:18:57.6.
19 - Funeral of last German Emperoress, Augusta Victoria.
30 - Pope Benedict XV encyclical "On Dante".

May

00 - A mass famine in Russia begins.
02 - Art The Met presents a modern art exhibit featuring Matisse, Manet, Degas, and Jean-Francois Millet.
08 - Sweden abolishes capital punishment.
10 - Teapot Dome Scandel Harding issues executive order transferring management of emergency oil field deposits to the Department of the Interior.
17 - President Harding opens (via telephone) 1st Valencia Orange Show.
19 - USA Immigration Quota Act severely limits immigration, to no more than 3 percent annually of each nationality, based on the number of that nationalityalready residing in the U.S. as of 1910.
21 - Radio Oldest radio station west of Mississippi River licensed in Greeley Co.
24 - 1st parliament for Northern Ireland elected.

31 - Trial of Nicola Sacco and Bartolomeo Vanzetti begins.

June

00 - Labor Samuel Gompers and Frank Morrison attend a meeting called by railroad union leaders and Senator Robert LaFollette to establish a People's Legislative Service to aid Congress. Gompers opposes the plan, however.
01 - Tulsa Oklahoma race riots kill 60 blacks and 25 whites.
11 - First women engineer graduates from Penn State
11 - Brazil adopts women suffrage.
30 - First switching machine office using Western Electric equipment is installed in Dallas.
