00 - Britain ratifies the formation of the Irish Free State, starting a civil war.
05 - Ernest H Shackleton, Brit South pole explorer (Endurance), dies at 47.
09 - KQV-AM in Pittsburgh PA begins radio transmissions.
09 - Rotterdam metal strike ends.
16 - AT&T releases plans to enter broadcasting to the public.
29 - Union of Costa Rica, Guatemala, Honduras & El Salvador dissolved.

February

00 - Conference for Progressive Political Action is organized to support Socialist and labor candidates for Congress.
02 - Literature James Joyce's Ulysses published in Paris (1,000 copies).
04 - IndiaPolitics Violence in India comes to a head when nationalists burn to death 22 at a police station. Indian National Congress leader Mahatma Gandhi calls for a halt to his non-cooperation movement to stop the mayhem, but British authorities arrest him on mar 10 1922 for sedition of the movement and sentence on him on mar 18 1922 to six years imprisonment.

25 - Women's fashions deemed so revealing that Catholic Pope Pius XI urges a campaign against them.
28 - 1st microfilm device introduced.

April

01 - A massive, disruptive U.S. coal strike gets underway in protest of wage reductions and industrial and government labor union policies. By sep 1922, the miners gain concessions and the strike ends.
03 - Stalin appointed General Secretary of Communist Party.
07 - Teapot Dome Scandal Secretary of the Interior Albert B. Fall leases the Navy's Teapot Dome oil field.
07 - Teapot Dome Scandal Naval Reserve #3, "Teapot Dome," leased to Harry F Sinclair.
16 - German-Russia treaty signed in Italy, Soviet Union recognized.
16 - Annie Oakley sets a women's record by breaking 100 clay targets in a row.

16 - White Star Line Majestic completes 5 day maiden voyage.
19 - U.S. inventor Charles Francis Jenkins makes first lab transmission of a television picture signal.
20 - "Egypt" sinks off Ushant after colliding with "Seine," killing 90.
23 - Walt Disney incorporates his 1st film company Laugh-O-Gram Films.
26 - The Federal Narcotics Control Board established, with power to prohibit importation of non-medicinal narcotics.
26 - Lenin suffers a stroke.

June

14 - Maryland, USARadio Warren Harding is the first U.S. president to broadcast by radio. The speech at the dedication of the Francis Scott Key Memorial, at Ft. McHenry, Baltimore. His voice was carried over telephone lines to the studio and broadcastfrom there. The first live remote.
16 - Aviation Henry Berliner demonstrates his helicopter to US Bureau of Aeronautics.
22 - Henry H Wilson, Field Marshal, murdered in London.
24 - Walter Rathenau, German foreign minister, killed by anti-semites at 54.
26 - Albert H K, monarch of Monaco 1889-1922, dies at 73.
