14 - Great Britain opens its new naval base at Singapore.
16 - Pro-Nazis are appointed as ministers of internal security and foreign affairs.
20 - Great Britain's Foreign Secretary, Anthony Eden, resigns to protest the appeasement of the dictators. Lord Halifax succeeds him.

02 - British Prime Minister Chamberlain publicly rejected the French policy of supporting Czechoslovokia against Germany.
04 - Czechoslovokia says it will fight if attacked by Germany. mar 12 - German troops occupy Austria. Hitler ?+ announces Anschluss (union) with Austria the following day.
16 - The Nazi leader in Czechoslovokia calls for all Germans in that country to join the Nazi Party.
16 - |Spanish Civil War ?+| Italian airforce starts bombing Barcelona.
17 - Leon Blum, back in power again in France, reopens the border with Spain.
24 - Chamberlain informs Parliament that Britain isn't bound to come to France's aid if war breaks out over Czechoslovokia.
25 - The Battle of Taierchuang begins. Japan will lose the battle with 16,000 of 18,000 troops killed; 15,000 Chinese die in the fighting.
28 - |Spanish Civil War| Indalecio Prieto calls for the start of peace negotiations.

29 - The Munich Pact is signed by Daladier, Chamberlain, Mussolini, and Hitler. Germany renounces any further territorial claims against its neighbors. Neville Chamberlain proclaims "Peace in our time".

01 - German troops begin occupying the Sudetenland region (some 11,500 square miles of territory containing important munitions factories) of Czechoslovokia.

07 - Ernst vom Rath, third secretary in the German Embassy in Paris, is shot and mortally wounded by Herschel Grynszpan, the 17 year old son of one of the deported Polish Jews. Rath dies on nov 09, precipitating Kristallnacht.
